A review: The Noisy Rooster

The Deets:

This place is honestly a gem in itself. It has everything a kid could want.

Animal Farm? Check!

Play Area? Check!

Food? Check!

Find it at 48 Keyes Avenue, Rosebank.
Open 9.30am – 4.00pm (Tues – Sun)

The Noisy Rooster boasts Catz’s nail and beauty salon, and a farm stall/ market which sells organic food from the Heversham farm. You can also host a children’s birthday party at The Noisy Rooster.

Different programs for kids are continuously running here, so check out their website to keep yourself up to date.

The farm stall will soon be selling organic pureed food – which is just amazing (I kind of wish this was available when my tot was a baba).

In the new year the farm stall will also be selling organic free range boxes (size dependant on the family it needs to feed) which is filled with fresh produce from Heversham Farm as well as their neighbouring farms. Orders include: free range chicken, beef, lamb, organic veggies, herbs, variety of goat cheese (yay!) and other selective produce – i.e. honey, jams, etc. Orders can be placed from Jan 2018.

*So I was totally that mom who walked up to the pig pen and allowed my toddler to press his hand against one of the pig’s snouts. Because I thought it was oh-so-adorable. And upon walking away I read the big-ass sign that asks you not to put your kid’s hands near the pig’s mouths as they can bite. Whoops. #ParentingWin

The food:

The food is delicious, catering for full on English breakfasts, large lunches and treats in-between. The restaurant tables are situated in between the playground, ensuring that your little ones are pretty much always in sight. There is also a kid’s section on the menu (because who are we kidding? We’re lucky if they even finish the kids portion), and coffee, always coffee.

They are probably best known for their famous chicken pies, and boast a range of precooked meals you can purchase for home which include lasagne (vegetarian as an option), macaroni bolognaise and the chicken pies of course (obviously).

The Atmosphere:

The atmosphere is rustic. Think children running in between hay stacks barefoot. Families gather for a meal in a different environment. Moms meet for playdates. The whole space screams ‘farmlife and fun’.

Cost:

Food (and coffee) can set you back anywhere from R70.00 to R250.00 depending what you order. The farm stall/market is reasonably priced, allowing you to buy fresh milk, eggs, jams and other assortments – all directly from the farm.

Child Friendly Aspect:

The playground is amazing, with two trampolines, multiple jungle gyms, a crawling tunnel, a sandpit and a baby area on a mat under the trees. Children’s tables and chairs can be spotted throughout the playground, with bunnies racing between the jungle gyms as if it is an obstacle course. Pigs welcome you from their pen as you walk into the restaurant/playground section, and goats are housed towards the back of the property, with food readily available for visitors to feed them.

The Child Minders are incredible and are super attentive, keeping your child’s attention (which is a feat in itself) and getting on their hands and knees to play with the children. So if you need to wind down and just have a cuppa and a moment of solitude (for your sanity), then this is definitely for you.

The bathroom has a baby changing station, and the restaurant houses a high chair for the littlest of the lot.

My favourites:

Their carrot cake is to die for! Sitting in the shade under some trees, surrounded by the beautiful setting, you can’t help but fill up your plate in that comfort homely kind of way. The pancakes are also pretty awesome. And of course they make a mean cappuccino, and if you know me, then you know that this is kind of an essential.
