A Review: Kiddilicious
The Deets:
Kiddilicious has that good ol’ outdoor vibe, which makes
this a firm favourite for me.
Find it at the corner of Arbroath and Nicol Road, Bedfordview,
with hours:
8.30am –
5.00pm (Tues – Thurs)
8:30am – 6:00pm (Sat)
9:00am – 4:00pm (Sun)
Kiddilicious boasts red door café restaurant, Wreak Havoc
gift shop (which is child focused and just BEAUTIFUL!), indulge beauty spa and
a baby clinic.
Although the times indicated above are the times that they’re
open, the kitchen closes an hour before the closing time – so keep that in mind
if you’re going for a bite to eat.
Kiddilicious is mainly outdoor focused with the restaurant tables
and chairs situated on the actual playground. There are a few tables inside for
a rainy day, but the majority are outdoors. In addition to the restaurant area,
they also have a separate venue section, ideal for children’s birthday parties
or baby showers.
An array of workshops are offered at Kiddilicous that are
all child focused (so either for the parents or for the children). These change
frequently (as they are often course run), so check out their FB page to get an
idea of what’s coming up.
The food:
Red door café pride themselves on their food. Their cakes
are always divine, and the menu itself has an array of options with full on
sit-down meals, finger food and of course desserts (read cake). They also have a
kids menu for child-sized portions.
The Atmosphere:
As with most child-orientated places, you’ll either find
groups of moms with their kids doing that coffee-date/play-date thing or whole
families here.
With most of the restaurant being outdoors, the atmosphere
is decidedly country, with children running around barefoot on the grass.
Cost:
The cost per person can range anywhere from R70.00 to R200.00
depending on what you order. So it can be pretty reasonable depending on what
you choose.
Wreak havoc gift store boasts a range of unique items, so
depending on what you’re buying it can be costly, but for the most part they’re
also quite reasonable.
Child Friendly
Aspect:
Outdoors. Outdoors. Outdoors. The kids area is outdoors
focused with steel jungle gyms in the shapes of planes, trains and bikes. A
huge tree overlooks the playground, creating shade for restaurant, and the sandpit
is unrivalled – seriously, it’s HUGE – complete with mud kitchen.
In this kind of environment, children are weaving in and out
of the tables, allowing you to keep a close eye on them, along with the added
benefit that (often) other parents keep an eye on them as well.
The restaurant has a few high chairs, and the bathroom has a
baby changing station.
My favourites:
My current favourite thing to order here is the Funfetti
Cake, because it’s delicious and pretty and let’s be honest, moms need sugar.
